Community, Advocacy, and Action and Care

At Neighbors Together, our work is rooted in connection. To one another, to our community, and to the shared belief that everyone deserves dignity, nourishment, and safe housing. This month, we were reminded that both internal reflection and external action are essential to building the stronger, more just community we envision. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to.

Coming Together For A Staff Retreat

This month, our team gathered for a beautiful staff retreat at BRIC House in Brooklyn. It was a meaningful day of reflection, planning, and connection as we discussed our annual goals and strengthened our shared vision for the year ahead.

We trained one another in best practices, exchanged ideas across programs, played games, and enjoyed a delicious lunch from Boutros. Most importantly, we shared countless belly laughs, the kind that remind us how special it is to work alongside such a dedicated and compassionate team. Days like this ground us in our mission and energize us for the work ahead.

Advocating in Albany for Housing Justice

Our Community Action Program team, alongside our members, traveled to Albany to meet directly with legislators and call for $250 million in funding for the Housing Access Voucher Program (HAVP).

Last year, advocates successfully secured $50 million in funding, a meaningful step forward, but it is only a fraction of what is truly needed to ensure safe, stable housing for our neighbors across New York State.

Our members bravely shared their lived experiences, reminding lawmakers that housing is not a luxury -it is a necessity. We invite you to stand with us and call your representatives to fully fund this life-saving program.

Volunteer With Us

We are always looking for volunteers to join us in our Community Café. Volunteers play a critical role in helping us serve hundreds of meals each day with dignity and care.
