TRAINED IN SOURCE OF INCOME DISCRIMINATION
We operate with a strengths-based, goal-oriented approach to advocacy and case management. By building on the inherent strengths of our members, we encourage self-advocacy, enabling them to manage challenges and ultimately avoid crises.

Our staff provides personalized support to individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, helping them navigate New York City’s housing market. Through Housing Search Workshops, Source of Income Discrimination Trainings, and ongoing assistance, the Empowerment Program is dedicated to ensuring marginalized communities receive the resources they need for long-term stability.

Spring at Neighbors Together: Community, Celebration and Advocacy

Spring is a time of renewal and reconnection at Neighbors Together. This month, we’re excited to celebrate the return of one of our most beloved events, show up for our community through direct service, and continue advocating for housing justice across New York City. Read on to see how we’re coming together to make an impact.

Plates for Change is Back and Celebrating 10 Years!

We are thrilled to bring back our largest event of the year on May 6th at BRIC House in Brooklyn. Plates for Change highlights the culinary excellence of over 20 local chefs and restaurants, all coming together to support our mission to end hunger and poverty in Brooklyn.

This milestone year marks our 10th showcase! Proceeds from the event help Neighbors Together provide daily meals, connect neighbors to critical resources, and create leadership opportunities for over 12,000 individuals and families each year.

Early Bird Pricing is available now through April 6th!

Supporting Women and Families in Re-Entry

This month, our Empowerment Program team joined the Women & Family Re-Entry Forum, led by the Office of Neighborhood Safety and the NYC Housing Authority.

This event created a safe and supportive space for women and families transitioning back into the community. Attendees were able to access resources and support around employment, education, childcare, parental rights, and mental health.

We are proud to stand alongside partners who are working to ensure that individuals returning to their communities have the tools, support, and dignity they deserve as they rebuild their lives.

Advocating for Housing Justice at City Hall

This month, our member leaders joined advocates and allies on the steps of City Hall to call for increased funding for the City Commission on Human Rights (CCHR).

CCHR plays a critical role in handling complaints of Source of Income Discrimination, a widespread and illegal practice that continues to block housing access for voucher holders.

Currently, the agency is severely understaffed, leading to significant delays in addressing complaints.

We are calling for increased funding to:

  • Speed up investigations into discrimination claims

  • Strengthen enforcement of human rights laws

  • Hold repeat offenders accountable

Our members are using their voices to demand a system that works, and we stand with them in advocating for meaningful change.
