Our staff provides personalized support to individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, helping them navigate New York City’s housing market. Sunny Days at Neighbors Together

This month at Neighbors Together, we’re reflecting on our largest event of the year, celebrating our volunteers, and advocating for support at the City level for voucher holders. Read about our work to futher our mission to end hunger and poverty here in Brooklyn.

A Beautiful Plates for Change Chef Showcase

It’s been nearly a month since we came together at BRIC House in downtown Brooklyn for our Plates for Change Chef Showcase. We continue to be full of gratitude and blown away by the support for our work here at Neighbors Together. Twelve incredible restaurant partners joined us to serve delicious tastings to over 300 guests in the space.

We are thrilled to say that we raised over $200,000 in support of our mission to end hunger and poverty in central BrooklynThe event was a beautiful celebration, and it would not have been possible without you and your support. Thank you!

Volunteer Spotlight: Mid-Bedford Heights Lion’s Club

For years, we have welcomed the joyful Mid-Bedford Heights Lion’s Club as volunteers in our Community Cafe. We are always excited to have them join us to help serve meals, prepare pantry bags, and connect with our team. This week, the Lion’s Club also generously donated to our work, and we are grateful for outstanding partnerships like these that help us further our mission.

Volunteers like the Lion’s Club are the reason we’re able to continue to serve thousands of our low-income neighbors every week -ensuring our neighbors are met with dignity and care.

A Rally Against Budget Cuts to CCHR

This week, our Community Action program team and member leaders joined voucher holders and allies on the steps of City Hall to rally against the proposed budget cuts to the City’s Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) – the agency responsible for investigating housing discrimination complaints and enforcing the city’s human rights laws.

Currently, the proposed City budget would reduce the agency’s funding by 6% and eliminate several staff positions, despite ongoing staffing shortages and significant delays in processing discrimination complaints. For New Yorkers using housing vouchers, these cuts could have serious consequences.

For years, our team and member leaders have been calling for increased funding for CCHR. During the rally, our Community Organizer, Nailah Abdul-Mubdi shared her personal story as a voucher holder, and our Director of Organizing and Public Policy Amy Blumsack emphasized that stronger enforcement is needed to ensure voucher holders have protections.
