This month, we’re reflecting on the power of community and the many ways neighbors continue to show up for one another. From expanded food access and clothing drives, to advocacy at City Hall and critical holiday support, this season reminds us just how vital collective care truly is. We’re grateful to share these updates with you and to have you alongside us as we continue the work of fighting hunger and poverty in Brooklyn.

Double Your Gift Now Through The End of The Year

We’re excited to share that a second matching period begins today for our Holidays Without Hunger campaign. From now through the end of the year, all donations will be matched up to $15,000 and doubling your impact.

Holidays Without Hunger directly supports the meals we serve in our Community Café during our busiest season. With rising food insecurity and record numbers of neighbors relying on us for daily meals, this support is incredibly meaningful.

Your matched gift helps ensure that our Café remains a place of nourishment, dignity, and care throughout the holidays and into the New Year.

Clothing Drive Success 

We recently hosted another clothing drive at Neighbors Together, and we’ve been truly blown away by the outpouring of generosity and the overwhelmingly positive response from our community.

Thanks to our neighbors’ donations, our members have been able to choose free, high-quality clothing during a time when warm and reliable items are especially critical. These drives continue to be an important way we support our members, and we are so grateful to everyone who made this year’s clothing drives such a success.

Expanding Pantry Items in Our Community Café

This year, we expanded our Community Café efforts by offering weekly distributions of shelf-stable pantry items in addition to prepared meals.

Thanks to generous donations, these pantry items have allowed us to provide some of our neighbors with food they can take home and rely on throughout the week. This small expansion has become a meaningful complement to our meal service and an important resource for families navigating ongoing food insecurity.

A Seat At The Table 

Recently, members of our team were invited to participate in a listening session with Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani and his team, centered on hearing directly from impacted individuals and frontline organizations.

Our Community Action Program team was proud to represent Neighbors Together and shine a light on the rampant source of income discrimination happening across New York City -an illegal practice that continues to keep thousands of housing voucher holders stuck in shelter.

We appreciate the opportunity to share our experiences and advocacy, and we look forward to continued dialogue and future listening sessions with Mayor-Elect Mamdani’s team.

Winter Break Closure

At the end of the month, our team will be taking a well-deserved break. Neighbors Together will be closed for our annual winter break beginning December 22nd, and we will re-open on Monday, January 5th.

We look forward to welcoming our services back in the New Year.
