Position: Café and Office Cleaner (Dishwasher and Janitorial Tasks)
Reports to: Café Volunteer and Operations Manager
Hours: Part-time at 30 hours per week
Monday – Thursday 12:30pm-6:30pm and Friday, 9:30am-3:30p
Position Description: Neighbors Together is a dynamic community-based organization committed to ending hunger and poverty in Ocean Hill, Brownsville and Bedford-Stuyvesant, three of the lowest-income areas in NYC. The Café & Office Cleaner is responsible for the efficient, clean and respectful operation of Neighbors Together’s Community Café, a daily soup kitchen that provides free, nutritious meals to low- income residents. Duties include, but are not limited to, janitorial tasks, assisting the Café Chef in the prepping and serving of nutritious meals to our guests in an atmosphere of dignity and respect, maintaining inventory of food and supplies, and unloading deliveries.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain NYC Department of Health food safety standards
- Complete the daily sanitation log as required by the NYC Department of Health
- Dishwashing
- Thorough deep cleaning of equipment, including stove, oven, and refrigerators and freezers in the basement on a weekly basis
- Keep kitchen, dining room, storage areas, restrooms, offices, conference rooms and basement clean and organized.
- Cleaning, stocking and supplying designated facility areas (dusting, sweeping, mopping, cleaning ceiling vents, restroom cleaning etc)
- Ensure deliveries are received and stored according to Department of Health food safety
- Maintain kitchen and cleaning supply inventory; inform Café Volunteer and Operations Manager about needed items and supplies.
- Actively participate as a member of the Neighbors Together staff by attending required meetings on Tuesday from 3:30-4:30pm once to twice a month.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to ensure the high-quality functioning of the Community Café and Neighbors Together as a whole.
- Set excellent customer service, communication and work
Experience & Qualifications:
- Certified Food Handler’s Certificate from the NYC Department of Health
- Reading, writing, and computer skills
- High school diploma/GED
- Reliability, teamwork and cooperation
- Food service & cooking skills
- Ability to lift 50 pounds daily

Compensation & Benefits:
- Competitive Salary Range – commensurate with experience
- 11 Federal Holiday Observations, 1 week paid summer break, and 2 week paid winter holiday break
- 12 Paid personal/vacation and 6 sick days in year Increases to 15 paid personal/vacation days with 7 sick days the following years
